CARL FROCH SAYS A SHOWDOWN WITH JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JR IS “PRETTY MUCH NAILED-ON AS BEING DONE”

“The fight with Chavez Jr is one of the five options that I do have and that’s a fight that I can get motivated for, a fight that excites me,” stated WBA & IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch, who recently revealed to Sky Sports that a potential clash with former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is “pretty much nailed-on as being done.” Evidently, Froch likes the idea of facing Chavez Jr. a lot more than other options his promoter, Eddie Hearn, has presented to him, including rematches with super middleweight contender George Groves and super middleweight king Andre Ward.

“If I’ve got two fights this year – and I usually do fight twice a year – one of those I think should be George Groves and one should be Chavez Jr., but probably not in that order. Chavez Jr is the next fight, the big fight that we’re closer to doing,” Froch explained. “I spoke to my promoter Eddie Hearn yesterday and that fight is pretty much nailed-on as being done and I’m happy with it.”

Before that can happen, however, Chavez Jr. must first get past Bryan Vera, who he’ll face in an intriguing rematch on March 1. During their first encounter, Chavez Jr. failed to make the 168-pound weight limit. Furthermore, many observers believed that Vera had done enough to win a unanimous decision, despite the fact that the judges scored it for Chavez Jr. With a potential pay-per-view shodown with Carl Froch hanging in the balance, both Chavez Jr. and Vera now have extra motivation to win, which should make for another good fight come March 1.
