In a recent article by Bill Dywre for the LA Times, Freddie Roach spoke on the advantages for Oscar De La Hoya, whom he is training for his match-up with Floyd Mayweather Jr set for May 5th. Roach also spoke on the flaws he sees in Mayweather Jr.
In regards to De La Hoya, Roach says that De La Hoya is the bigger, stronger fighter. Roach says he will use that to their advantage. Roach has noticed a problem with De La Hoya, that he occasionally fades in the ninth or 10th round.
“Being tired is not a good excuse for losing,” Roach says.
Roach calls Mayweather Jr. an “excellent fighter who is not perfect, not complete and not a big puncher.” Roach says Mayweather has used his quick feet to hide his flaws for years.
