Via social media, boxing legend and sports superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. took shots at Manny Pacquiao this week as well as other prospective opponents.
Perhaps reminding fans, and Pacquiao himself, he personally called PacMan in January 2012 to negotiate terms for a superfight, Mayweather took to Facebook and Twitter on Monday to post a collection of “Christmas card” photos that mocked the Filipino’s response to Mayweather’s proposal and Pacquiao’s recent turbulence inside and outside the ring.
In the photos, Mayweather’s $40 million superfight offer is rejected as Pacquiao, at the time, demanded a “50/50” purse split or nothing at all.
Back then, Manny insisted, “He said he will guarantee me $40 million but I won’t have any share on the pay-per-view and other sources of revenue.”
The ensuing frame shows an unconscious Pacquiao “sleeping” on the canvas after being knocked out by Marquez.

“This is my Christmas card to the world… Happy Sleepy Holidays zzzzzzzzzzzz,” Mayweather wrote, referencing the knockout.
Mayweather vs Pacquiao, had it taken place in 2012, would have grossed over $100 Million so Floyd would have earned considerably more than his superstar foe in the proposed offer.
Keep in mind, Mayweather would have also received a percentage of the pay-per-view (PPV) revenue and possibly a cut of the profits made from concession stands (beer, hot dogs and etc) and fight-related apparel.
Nevertheless, a $40 million guarantee would have been Manny’s biggest purse by far and the third highest monetary reward for a single fight in the entire history of the sport at the time.
Since their chat 23 months ago, Floyd’s stock has increased while Manny has sputtered. The latter would lose his title after dropping a highly controversial decision to Tim Bradley five months after that famous call. Moreover, Manny would be subsequently knocked cold by Juan Manuel Marquez at the end of the year.
To make matters worse, alleged debt and rumors of tax evasion plague the Filipino fight legend today. Since 2009, boxing fans have been clamoring for a showdown between Mayweather and Pacquiao, widely considered the best fighters of their generation. However, the fight has been derailed by multiple roadblocks over drug testing and purse splits and, perhaps, bitterness between rival promoters.
Floyd Mayweather is the ultimate decision-maker and, despite his taunts, Pacquiao remains ‘Money May’s’ most lucrative option.
In addition to the Mayweather-Pacquiao framed sequence Floyd posted Monday, Mayweather posted three more pics early this morning.

“Just imagine what Amir “Con Artist” will get if his name gets picked in the Mayweather sweepstakes,” Floyd wrote.
And perhaps in response to the calls for Floyd Mayweather vs Marcos Maidana and the latter’s challenge, Floyd also had something special prepared.
