“Absolutely! Yes, Maidana’s name is now in the lottery jackpot box,” stated undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd “Money” Mayweather, who revealed to FightHype.com that newly-crowned WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana is indeed a potential opponent for his next fight on May 3, 2014. Evidently, Maidana’s upset victory over Adrien Broner this past Saturday was enough to get the attention of Mayweather, who has yet to decide on who he’ll face when he makes his highly-anticipated return to the ring.
Maidana is coming off the biggest win of his career, dropping the previously undefeated Broner two times en route to capturing the WBA welterweight title via unanimous decision. Mayweather, who Broner refers to as “Big Bruh”, praised Maidana’s performance, saying he was “the better man” though also noting that perhaps Broner is not yet big enough to compete at welterweight. In fact, Mayweather thinks Broner should move down to the 140-pound division, and he has the perfect date for him to make his jr. welterweight debut. “I think what would be a good move for him is this. May 3rd, fight on my undercard; you know, fight a solid guy at 140, get back on track and get your career in order,” Mayweather added.
