In a recent article by Kevin Iole, published in The Las Vegas Review Journal, Floyd Mayweather Jr’s advisor and close friend, Leonard Ellerbe spoke in regards of Oscar De La Hoya’s choice for Freddie Roach to be his trainer rather than Floyd Mayweather Sr. De La Hoya has opted to use Roach for his upcoming fight against Mayweather Jr. rather than pay Mayweather Sr. 2 million dollars for his service.
In the Review Journal, Ellerbe weighed in with his views, saying that the choice has only made De La Hoya’s chances of winning much more slim. Ellerbe also felt Roach was a big step down from Mayweather Sr.
“Oscar had two chances to win this fight, slim and none, and slim just left town when he hired Freddie,” Ellerbe said. “I have a lot of respect for Freddie as a great trainer, but to compare Freddie Roach as a trainer to Mayweather Sr. is like comparing (Manu) Ginobili to Kobe Bryant.”
