This of course, is owed to the prodigious mouth of WBA welterweight champ Adrien Broner, which can make words fall down on foes like torrential rain. Broner didn?t get rave reviews for lifting the title from Paulie Malignaggi in the early summer in Brooklyn, while Maidana has looked more sound under Robert Garcia while keeping his iron fists.
On record as saying that he wants to surpass Floyd Mayweather in accomplishments, the proverbial fork in the road will be seen by Broner in the form of Maidana, in the enemy territory of San Antonio, TX at the Alamodome on Showtime.
While Floyd sits next to The Emperor, we’re gonna find out whether or not Adrien Broner is closer to Darth Maul- or Darth Vader.

Adrien Broner, 24, must know that he?s going to need very fast light-sabres to deal with what will not be a phantom menace. At stake for him is superstardom, and maybe (just maybe) an inevitable confrontation with the master he feels he can beat, Floyd Mayweather himself.
But he must survive Maidana. The question is, can he?
ADRIEN BRONER VS. MARCOS MAIDANA
Count me among those who feel that Paulie Malignaggi (dethroned of his WBA welterweight title by Broner via split decision) wasn?t really given enough credit in losing his title. A popular consensus that Adrien was unimpressive in victory is also not really justified. I didn?t think it was as close as the scores indicated, and there?s a reason why we have weight classes. It?s not every day you jump from lightweight (135lbs) to welterweight (147lb) and just beat a seasoned champion fairly convincingly (I thought he did, but he should’ve got the knockout) coming from 12lbs south.
It was actually unrealistic that he?d even win.
Marcos Maidana has been in with bulls and is facing an aggressor matador in Broner. He will attempt to spear him throughout, and is nuanced enough to know that Broner is decidedly different from the mentor he?s obviously been influenced by greatly.
Adrien Broner is a larger than life personality. He is immature, obnoxious and prone to self-destruction. He has personally irritated me on many occasions with his rather disturbing choices outside of the ring, but that has nothing to do with boxing and how I should judge him in the ring. Or how you should for that matter.
On Saturday night, he is going to become a superstar.
I think of Mayweather as a very athletic blend of James Toney and Roy Jones Jr. in how he goes about his business in and out of the ring. Broner reminds me of James Toney and Jack Johnson in this regard.
His feet are somewhat heavy and flat, but he see?s punches very well, is a poser, and does not waste motion or punches. He?s a very sharp striker- whose regimen in coming down to 147 this time ? will leave him stronger.
In Maidana, he?s not facing someone with the technical skills, savvy and movement of Malignaggi, so he?ll understand how to blunt his more refined attack under trainer Robert Garcia. Between rotating his upper torso out of striking range and absorbing shots with his dense frame, Maidana will feel like he’s punching into a force field.
This is a darker version of Mayweather vs. Gatti in my opinion.
The Argentinean will no doubt be the hardest puncher Broner has faced, and will offer the Cincinnati product a fierce encounter. But on average, he won?t be able to hit Broner cleanly, and the deficits he faces in hand speed, ring generalship and his own defensive liabilities, will leave the bull with massive knife wounds everywhere.
In a performance that will catapult him into the upper echelon of the pound-for-pound rankings, whether you can?t stand him or not, Adrien Broner will absolutely destroy Marcos Maidana on the way to a chilling 7th round KO.
