MANILA, Philippines — Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao acknowledged the strong sentiment among his fans that he keep out of politics but said his plan to seek election is for his town mates in General Santos City who need his help.
?I am aware of the [fans?] sentiment expressed over the Internet. Maybe they should also go to General Santos City and see how much help the people there need,? Pacquiao said in Filipino.
The boxer accompanied Ilocos Sur Governor Luis ?Chavit? Singson file his certificate of candidacy for senator at the Commission on Elections.
Singson said he personally prefers that Pacquiao concentrate on boxing than politics.
However, he said he would support whatever decision the Kamao ng Bayan (People’s Fist) makes.
Pacquiao recently took his oath of office as a member of the Liberal Party faction led by Manila Mayor Lito Atienza.
