MAIDANA SAYS HE WAS ALREADY OBSESSED WITH BECOMING 147 CHAMPION; ADRIEN BRONER ADDED FUEL TO THAT FIRE

“It’s not that I’m upset or anything with Adrien Broner. The fact is the thing that I really, really want in my career is to be the welterweight champion, the WBA welterweight champion, and it happens that Broner won that belt unexpectedly, because he was a lightweight fighter, but since he beat Malignaggi, that kind of like become my obsession. I want to be a world champion. It happens that he has the belt and that’s why I want to beat him,” stated former jr. welterweight champion Marcos Maidana, who talked about his upcoming December 14 clash with undefeated WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner. As far as Maidana is concerned, he’s much more focused on becoming a welterweight champion than he is on beating Broner, however, when both men crossed paths and nearly came to blows on the eve of Mayweather vs. Canelo, the incident only added fuel to the already burning fire.

“The fight was not done already when the incident happened in Las Vegas, but after the incident, I’ll tell you the truth, it really light me up and it was motivation for me because I’m not used to fights or getting into arguments or come to blows with fellow fighters, but this guy has something special in him,” Maidana explained during a recent conference call to promote the bout. “He’s provocative character, so it really gave me motivation to focus more on my training; training harder and, you know, I just want for December 14 to be now.”
