Shane Mosley (43-4-37KO) steps back into the ring on February 10th, at the Mandalay Bay Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He faces the very tough southpaw, Luis Collazo (27-2-0). Mosley is coming off of an impressive 6th round TKO over Fernando Vargas back in July, 2006, but he isn’t taking his new opponent lightly, ?Collazo is a great fighter, a great boxer/puncher, and his southpaw style could pose me some problems, but I think I am going to do very well.?
Luis Collazo’s most notable fights were against former welterweight champion Jose Antonio Rivera, whom he went on to grab the title from in a 12 round decision, only to lose it to Ricky Hatton a little over a year later. Collazo brings a few things into the ring that gets Mosley’s attention, ?He has good foot movement, and pretty good hand-speed. Each time he fights he gets better and better, so that builds his confidence, the guy’s a good fighter.?
Initially there were talks about Mosley fighting Kermit Cintron, but that fight fell through, so Collazo was next on his list. Picking Collazo as his next opponent had some boxing minds scratching their heads. What is the gain for Mosley? ?Actually at this point I am not picking my opponents. I let HBO and my team decide on who the best opponent is for me. Kermit Cintron ran into some problems, so that fight fell through. I really didn’t pick Collazo, but I am ready to fight anyone, so it doesn’t really matter. Kermit Cintron got into some legal problems, and there were just too many problems, so that fight just didn’t work out.?
Floyd Mayweather Jr was a guy that Mosley had on his radar as well, but as we all know he already has an opponent in Oscar De La Hoya. Mosley isn’t looking past Collazo, but he still has his sights set on Mayweather in the future, ?I don’t plan on hanging the gloves up any time soon, I would like to go another 5 years, so yeah, definitely, I would love to get in there with Mayweather.?
Recently Golden Boy thought they had there man Manny Pacquiao signed to a promotional deal, Top Rank’s Bob Arum had other plans. Fightnews asked Shane Mosley for his thoughts on the whole Pacquiao, Golden Boy, Top Rank situation, ?That whole situation is crazy, Golden Boy is the best promotional company in the business. Bob Arum does good things too, when I fought Oscar the promotion was always good, and he was always first class. With that said, I can’t understand Manny’s decision, I thought that he would have been a perfect match to come over to Golden Boy.?
With the big fight on the horizon between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather, Fightnews was interested in getting Shane’s thoughts on that matchup, ?I think this is a very interesting fight, I think Mayweather is underestimating Oscar’s speed. Oscar has good hand-speed as well, so it’s going to be very difficult for him to sit back and counter-punch against Oscar. I think Oscar is going to take care of business, I am just looking forward to this fight, it’s going to be a great fight, I am really looking forward to it.?
Mosley doesn’t plan on hanging up the gloves any time soon. The future Hall of Fame fighter had this to say to all of his fans, ?I look forward to another 5 or 6 more years. My training camps are going well, I feel better and better after each camp. I look forward to bringing all of my fans many more exciting fights.?
