Manny Pacquiao and the Korean In Jin Chi were supposed to get it on in April but all the I?s haven?t been dotted, never mind the T?s being crossed?
The Philippine Daily Inquirer says that Bob Arum, Pacquiao?s promoter, cancelled his trip to Macau to negotiate with Wynn Macau executives on the specifics for the fight venue and terms.
Arum was scheduled to fly to Macau on Monday, but Pacquiao?s associate Rex Wakee Salud told the paper that Arum has shelved the trip.
?He called me up to say he was cancelling the trip,? Salud said to the Inquirer.
We hear that there is drama between Arum and Freddie Roach, possibly spurred on by Roach?s decision to take on Oscar De La Hoya as his premier client. Roach will be getting the Golden Boy ready for his May showdown with Oscar De La Hoya. Roach said that Pacquiao had no problem with this scenario, and of course we have no reason to disbelieve him.
But there?s an old saying about the difficulty of serving two masters?
Boxers have hefty egos, as they well should have, since there is little room for self doubt when you engage in an endeavor in which your very existence is at stake.
Will Pacquiao really be OK as his trainer transfers his energy to another client? Something tells me that this development could trigger a crack in the Pacquiao/Roach bond, one that could escalate into a full blown rupture. This is pure gut instinct, nothing more, mind you?
Now, Pacquaio probably deserves a less-stringent test at this point in his career, as he?s been taking on the baddest asses the sport has to offer. Chi has a good deal left to offer the sport, but as a fan, we?re hoping Pac Man and Arum and all the other personalities that are jockeying for position in that camp will get along, and get going on securing another big test, another big event that capitalizes on the momentum Pacquiao has built to this point?
