LAS VEGAS ? Here?s a bit of trivia that may not augur well for Manny Pacquiao?s bid for the world featherweight championship on Saturday night (Sunday morning in Manila).
It was almost at this time 22 years ago when another Filipino pug, the heavy-handed Rolando Navarrete, took a trip to this gambling haven to defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) superfeatherweight title against Rafael “Bazooka” Limon.
There are more eerie similarities than just the date.
Like Navarrete, Pacquiao is from General Santos City and is a southpaw. And like his controversial provincemate, Pacquiao traveled to this popular tourist destination in the month of May to face a Mexican with a world title on the line.
