After defeating Carlos Baldomir this past Saturday, Floyd Mayweather Jr’s focus has turned to Oscar De La Hoya. However Oscar De La Hoya has set the record straight, telling MaxBoxing scribe, Steve Kim that he is not sure a fight with Mayweather is worth it. De La Hoya confirmed to Kim that he didn’t buy or watch Mayweather vs Baldomir, but was well aware of of the empty seats, the boos and catcalls from the audience and the lukewarm tracking numbers of the pay-per-view.
De La Hoya tells MaxBoxing: ?I just keep saying to myself, ‘Why should this guy make 10, 15 million dollars? I mean, what’s he really worth?”
De La Hoya confirmed he would box again, but wasn’t sure Mayweather was the man. De la Hoya confirmed Felix Trinidad would be amongst his top choices and he still plans to fighting again: ?Oh, absolutely, I will box again,” said De La Hoya.
Mayweather?s comments that De La Hoya’s team should call him and that he was calling the shots, not De La Hoya, rightfully didn’t sit well with De La Hoya. Asserting he is still firmly in the driver’s seat, De La Hoya said, “They have to call us. If they don’t, that means that they don’t want the fight.”
With De La Hoya vs Mayweather now up in the air, De La Hoya added, “We were going to do a big grass roots promotion, with big sponsorships and everything. But what does he really bring?”
De la Hoya ended by dissing Mayweather’s star power, saying “We heard how they did this weekend. He has no leverage.”‘
