ALA Promotions hopes to expand its network to Puerto Rico by working with the PR Best Boxing in the near future.
?We plan to do events in Puerto Rico and the Philippines in a co-promotion partnership,? ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu.
Aldeguer is leaving for the US on Oct. 16 to meet with PR Best Boxing. He will also check on the ALA Gym in San Diego, meet with the executive director for ALA Promotions California and start working on their first US event.
?PR Best Boxing is the biggest promoter in Puerto Rico and we discussed working together. The plan is to do events in Puerto Rico and in the Philippines,? he said.
Aldeguer is looking at a marquee Puerto Rico vs. Philippines matchups between currently retired Rey ?Boom-Boom? Bautista and Juan Manuel Lopez, and World Boxing Organization mini-flyweight king Ivan Calderon, who is also retired.
Some of the other fighters that PR Best Boxing handles are Roman Martinez, Jonathan Gonzalez, Carlos Negron, Jonathan Oquendo and brothers McJoe and McWilliams Arroyo.
After retiring this year, Bautista wants to give boxing another shot. The 26-year-old former world title contender hanged up his gloves after a split decision defeat to Jose Ramirez in Davao City.
Lopez is currently on a four-month layoff after a fourth round technical knockout defeat to Mikey Garcia last June.
