ADONIS STEVENSON STOPS TAVORIS CLOUD AFTER 7 ROUNDS OF PUNISHMENT

Moments ago, WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson successfully defended his title against challenger Tavoris Cloud, scoring a relatively easy 7th round TKO at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Stevenson was in total control throughout the fight, outboxing Cloud while landing heavy punches that had him hurt on several occasions.

Cloud came out aggressive, looking to apply pressure and assert his power. Stevenson, however, stayed calm, waiting for his opportunity to counter. That opportunity presented itself in the middle of round 1, when Stevenson threw a left hand counter down the middle that landed flush, which appeared to hurt Cloud and put him on the defensive. By the second round, Stevenson was already feeling comfortable, dropping his hands and showboating while still landing effective shots while making Cloud miss.

Stevenson continued to use his superior technical skills and footwork, confusing Cloud with movement while he continued to find a home for the straight left counter. In the 4th round, Stevenson turned the heat up, landing heavy shots that busted open the eye of Cloud. After again showboating to the crowd, Stevenson landed a devastating left hook to the body that had Cloud doubling over. Things only got rougher for Cloud as Stevenson continued to let his hands go, repeatedly finding a home for his left hand throughout the middle rounds. By the end of the 7th round, Cloud’s face was bloodied and cut open, and his corner had seen enough, calling a halt to the assault.
