According to reports, Microsoft Corp. is giving $1 million in software to the Oscar de la Hoya Foundation. The donation to De La Hoya’s foundation will allow East Los Angeles residents to use computers more easily.
De la Hoya started the foundation over a decade ago in 1995. According to the foundation, a small number, less than 7 percent of East Los Angeles households have access to computers. The $1 million grant will go towards new personal computers loaded with the new Windows Vista operating system. In a statement, De La Hoya said: “Windows Vista will make a huge impact on everything from after-school homework assistance throughout the community to giving parents an opportunity to gain new skills for today’s burgeoning digital work force.”
De la Hoya is set to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5 in Las Vegas.
