MANNY PACQUIAO will fly to the United States this week to cheer for his pal Jorge Arce in his fight against Argentinian Julio David Ler at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum confirmed this in an interview with Michael Marley of Boxingconfidential.com.
Arum said that Pacquiao’s US trip will give him an opportunity to personally warn the Filipino champion not to take Korean Chi In-jin for granted in their coming fight.
Pacquiao and Arce became friends during the Filipino’s three bouts with Erik Morales, where Arce was a constant fixture at the press conferences and during the fights.
Arce (45-3-1, 35 KOs) holds the World Boxing Council flyweight interim title. He is the mandatory challenger to WBC super fly champ Cristian Mijares.
Arum said he expects the April 28 Pacquiao-Chi clash in Macau to be an explosive fight, and that Pacquiao should train in the US.
“He should be training in the US with Freddie Roach, and not in the Philippines,” said Arum, pointing out the distractions that might come Pacquiao’s way, including politicians who are trying to convince him to run for office.
