“I don’t really know who, out of the Hispanic and the Mexican and the Latin fighters, I don’t know who has the biggest following,” stated undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd “Money” Mayweather, who isn’t the least bit concerned about the number of fans who may be in attendance cheering for undefeated jr. middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez when the two step into the ring for their highly-anticipated September 14 showdown. As far as Mayweather is concerned, he’s seen and heard it all at this level, so the fan reaction won’t matter since, as Mayweather himself like to say, the fans can’t fight for him.
Surprisingly, when it comes to Mexican fighters, Mayweather doesn’t even think Canelo has the biggest fan base. “If I had to say so, I would say probably Marquez,” he stated, suggesting that multi-division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez, who Mayweather defeated with ease back in 2009, has a bigger following than Canelo. “Because he has accomplished more and he’s done a lot for the sport of boxing,” Mayweather explained. “So I don’t really just want to say Canelo has a bigger following. If I had to say so, I would say Marquez.”
