Johnny Gonzalez KO 1 Abner Mares
Former two-time world champion and veteran underdog Jhonny Gonzalez shocked the boxing world and rising star Abner Mares with a devastating first round stoppage moments ago in Carson, California as seen live on Showtime. Both fighters came out swinging and exchanged in the centre of the ring but it was Gonzalez who landed with the first telling shot, a left hook that dropped Mares hard. Despite being badly hurt the youngster showed a lot of heart to continue but Gonzalez jumped all over him and landed a series of blows culminating with another left hook and right hand that put Mares down again. The referee waived it off with Mares looking shocked and stunned. With the win Gonzalez moves to 55-8, (47 KOs) and picks up the WBC featherweight title to become a three time world champion.
