Carson. CA: Tonight?s Golden Boy Promotions 10-fight card featuring Abner Mares vs. Jhonny Gonzales at the main event went off moments ago in open air tennis arena under a very hot and bright California sun. With that it was a real challenge to find the right camera settings each time the sun peaks over the clouds.
The fight card started almost on time which is a credit to the folks at Golden Boy Promotions.
The curtain raiser was between two super middleweights and it was a four rounder. Lanell Bellows of Las Vegas (5-0-1, 4 KO) lived up to the matchmaker?s expectations by beating a lowly journeyman in Leshon D. Sims of nearby Inglewood. (5-16-0, 3KO).
Scores were all 40-36 for Bellows.
Another Las Vegas warrior was involved in the second fight. Ronald Gavril (6-0-0, 4KO) kept his record immaculate by scoring a 2nd round KO win over David L. Courchaline of Downey, CA. (2-4-0, 2KO). Gavril also scored a KD in the first round. After the fight the referee got too excited in reporting the results, he forgot to announce the time of the KO. We had to get it from the Commission. Time was 1:50 2nd round.
The third fight was an 8 rounder featuring Jesus Ruiz of Nogales, MX (29-5-5,21KO) versus Enrique Quevedo of Los Angeles (14-6-1, 9KO) (top photo). Ruiz with more experience was supposed to breeze through the fight but Quevedo would have nothing with that and stood his ground. In the end, Ruiz managed to get a unanimous decision. Scores were 79-73, 79-73 and 78-74.
