AFTER Manny Pacquiao was knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez in December, all talk of the Filipino fighting Floyd Mayweather stopped. By then, the public ? once fascinated by idea of the rivals getting it on ? were bored of the tiresome flirting.
But there seems to be new interest in the bout, some five years after it was first mentioned.
With both fighters promoting separate bouts, rumblings about a potential matchup are getting louder again. Recently Mayweather, who takes on Saul Alvarez on September 14, declared that Pacquaio was a ?has been? because of his losses to both Marquez and Timothy Bradley.
?He said I?m a what?? the Filipino said when told by The Boxing Channel about Floyd?s accusations.
?That?s good. That?s really good. He can easily beat me. So why doesn?t he fight me? Let?s get it on.?
So here we go again.
If Mayweather gets past Alvarez as expected, and Pacquiao proves the oddsmakers right by beating Brandon Rios in November, the fight that never was, might still be.
