The Paclanders have spoken loud and clear on Boxingconfidential.com. An overwhelming 78 percent of those responding to our poll on manager Shelly Finkel say that Manny Pacquaio should retain Finkel’s boxing business services.
With 1,516 pugilistic precincts reporting, Finkel has numbers that President Bush can only dream about.. Nearly 60 of those polled said flat out that Pacman should keep Finkel involved in his career, no ifs, ands or buts.
Only 23 percent said that the Filipino ring idol should cashier Finkel. And another 19 percent favored retaining Finkel if he could extricate the fighter from promotional entanglements.
“That is gratifying,” Finkel said. “But I have not closed the door to anything. I think I have made it clear to Manny, his family members and his real and true friends that my door is open, my phone lines are open and I am here for Manny in any capacity in which I may be helpful to him. I am here as a friend, a confidante, an adviser…in whatever capacity Manny chooses. He is a great and special talent and I wish him nothing but the best.”
Finkel has said his managerial deal with Pacman expires in a couple of weeks while Bob Arum of Top Rank contends that Finkel gave up his managerial rights and interests last August.
