ALL INDICATIONS point to Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao signing the fight contract within this week for his April 28 showdown with Korean world champ In Jin Chi at the Wynn Hotel and Casino in Macau, China.
Promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, in an interview in the US, has indicated that he was looking to finalize the deal “within the next couple of days” in a fight that will pit pound-for-pound topnotcher Pacquiao against the durable Chi.
Arum was reportedly ecstatic over the fact that the buzz for the Pacquiao-Chi fight in Macau was phenomenal, although he pointed out that he was still not sure whether the fight would be distributed by HBO, Showtime or an independent network.
In the same interview carried by website Boxingconfidential.com, Arum also dispelled rumors that he was trying to lure Japan’s top promoter Akihiko Honda into selling half of the promotional rights on undefeated Edwin Valero, which was what the Venezuelan claimed in an interview with media earlier.
Valero had claimed that Arum, along with Shelly Finkel and Oscar De La Hoya, had contacted his promoter in an attempt to purchase half of the Venezuelan’s promotional rights.
