Los Angeles – WBC #2 ranked super featherweight Humberto Soto’s manager, Antonio Lozada finds himself in Mexico City, Mexico today.
Why?
Lozada is looking to meet with the WBC President Sulaiman about Soto’s future as a WBC contender. Yesterday, the WBC announced they will grant super featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera an optional defense against Juan Manuel Marquez. Lozada will meet with Sulaiman to discuss Soto’s status with the council, as his fighter won a WBC eliminator in August 2006 from Ivan Valle.
I am sure Soto is anxious to get a crack at the WBC’s green belt.
During the WBC convention in Croatia, Soto was named #2 contender, and if a bout between Barrera and Pacquiao was not possible, Soto should be the next to fight Barrera.
Soto, promoted by Top Rank, could possibly find himself in another eliminator v. Manny Pacquiao. Though Pacquiao just fought Erik Morales in an elimination bout, as we can see, it did not produce the desired result, due to promotional entanglements.
Pacquiao, #1 in the WBC and now with Top Rank, could fight Soto, in a bout that would put more money in the pockets of Soto, than a fight with Marquez or Barrera could.
Lozada stated via e-mail, at this point, they are not looking for a bout with Pacquiao, but only want to discuss the WBC’s decsion to bypass Soto.
Soto, is most noted for taking Rocky Juarez’s undefeated record, in 2005, before Rocky’s two bout with Barrera.
