SAN FRANCISCO -- It appears like Metta World Peace is done as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to the Orange County Register, the Lakers will apply the league's amnesty provision on World Peace, who was previously known as Ron Artest. The 33-year old World Peace averaged 12.4 points, five rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in 75 games last season.
World Peace is a 14-year NBA veteran who has also suited up for the Chicago Bulls, the Indiana Pacers and the Houston Rockets. He played the past four seasons with the Lakers but the 33-year old was slowed down in the playoffs by a knee injury which required the removal of cartilage.
The 6-foot-7, 260-pound World Peace is due $7.7 million in the upcoming 2013-14 season, and cutting him would save the Lakers around $15 million in luxury taxes, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Although waiving World Peace isn't official yet, Kobe Bryant is still hoping that the Lakers will keep one-time All-Star.
"Personally, I'd keep Metta and make a run with the unit we have and just add a few pieces, Bryant announced on Twitter. (JSM).
