It doesn?t take a genius to realize that Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Canelo Alvarez is right now the biggest fight that can be made. One would think that it should be easy to pin two popular fighters to face one another, but the politics of the sport, usually derails the fight from ever coming to fruition. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao was supposed to be the biggest fight ever made, but purse splits, drug testing agency disagreements, and yes you guessed it, the political side of the sport, stopped the mega fight from ever materializing. But that was then, and this is now, and right now we have the two most popular fighters in the sport with a combined record of 86-0-1 that are now in a middle of a 11 city press tour to promote their much anticipated clash.
Speaking of records, this clash is so big that the event itself sold out tickets on the very first day of ticket sales, less than 24 hours after tickets went on sale! This means that the fight will generate a minimum of $18 million in ticket sales, then you have the closed circuit venues, and Pay Per View sales on top of all that, so it?s safe to say that records will be broken. Back in May of 2007, when Mayweather/De La Hoya took place at the MGM Grand, the fight broke every boxing revenue record, which included the all-time pay-per-view mark with 2.4 million buys. Mayweather/Alvarez is a real threat of breaking or at the very least coming close enough to sniff that Pay Per View record.
So trust me when I tell you that if the Mayweather/Alvarez press tour stops in your city, or a city near you, you are going to want to be there to be a part of history. This is history in the making, and not since Floyd faced De La Hoya, has an opponent opposite of Floyd been viewed as a real threat to be the first to place a blemish on Money Mayweathers? glossy ledger. As of right now, Canelo Alvarez is that threat!
