FEATHERWIEGHT Bernabe Concepcion looks poised to regain another shot at a possible world title once he hurdles a worthy opponent in his next assignment lined up for him by his promoter next month.
Coming off a two fight winning streak, Concepcion will square off against a Filipino super bantamweight in Richard Betos in a stacked fight card that will also feature former world title contender Eden Sonsona on July 20 at the Treston College Gymnasium in Taguig City.
The fight is being hatched by Shape-Up Boxing Promotions of Anson Tiu-Co here in Baguio City.
?This fight will determine if Bernabe can be a title contender once again. If he loses then we need to rethink,? said Tui?Co.
?Definitely, Richard will be a big test for Bernabe,? added Tui-Co.
The 25-year-old Concepcion, who used to be under the watchful eye of famed trainer Freddie Roach, now trains at the Shape Up Boxing gym, where Manny Pacquiao trained thrice.
Bernabe won the WBC Youth World super bantamweight title way back in 2007 carving out a unanimous decision against Benjamin Flores which was the turning point of the Virac, Catanduanes fighter.
After that unanimous win, Concepcion was able to win the NABF super bantamweight championship and defended the strap two times before winning the vacant WBC International featherweight title in 2009.
He was then given a chance to square off for the WBO featherweight title in 2009 against Steve Luevano but was disqualified after hitting his opponent at the end of the bell of the seventh round.
Concepcion now holds a record of 32 wins, including 18 knockouts with six loses including one draw.
His latest victim is Boido Simanjuntak whom he retired in the seventh round in April 21 this year and Richard Olisa via a second round stoppage in October of 2012.
