Los Angeles – With Golden Boy Promotions announcing today, via Boxing Talk, that the promotional firm would move forward with a March show down between Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez, I took the opportunity to call Marquez’s trainer Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain.
Mr. Beristain was surprised by the news, as just last week, he had informed Boxing Confidential that he felt as if, “Barrera will never agree to that fight, because he knows he will lose.”
Today, Mr. Beristain had the following statement.
“I am glad to hear that the fight will take place. Now it is time to work. No contracts have been signed or discussed, but I am a man of my word, and I had said if they fight was a possibility, I would agree to it happening.”
A big victory for Juan Manuel Marquez, but a loss to Barrera, Pacquiao, and the boxing fans who looked forward to the rematch.
