FILIPINO Milan ?El Metodico? Melindo will challenge World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Association (WBA) Mexican flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada on July 27 at the Venetian Hotel in Macau, China.
Estrada (23-2, 17 knockouts) stole the WBO and WBA belts from Melindo?s compatriot Brian Viloria (32-4, 19 KOs) via 12 round split decision last April 7, also in Macau.
ALA Vice President Dennis Ca?ete said that the unbeaten 25-year-old Melindo (29-0, 12 KOs) has started his training in Cebu under coach Edito Villamor.
?He (Melindo) is focused on how to win his title fight. His goal is to become a world champion and I?m confident he can make it,? Ca?ete said.
Following his win over Indonesian Tommy Seran via fourth round knockout last April 25 in Macau, Melindo began training earnestly after Top Rank Promotion boss Bob Arum announced that he would be given a chance to challenge Estrada.
