What follows is verbatim manager Shelly Finkel’s disappointed reaction to Manny Pacquiao’s announcement in Manila that the Filipino boxer will now fight for Bob Arum’s Top Rank. Finkel also said that Arum’s press conference remarks that his (Finkel’s) managerial deal expired in August are false.
Finkel said he is “angry” at Manny’s “lack of loyalty and bad choices.”
Statement of Shelly Finkel:
“Bob Arum is incorrect as usual. The date of expiration is incorrect. A fighter always needs the right manager, so that a lawyer doesn’t let him sign two contracts. Maybe the right manager wouldn’t have let him sign any contract.”
“Does a fighter need the manager who got him as a B fighter with loads of problems and helped him out of his problems to become an A fighter? I think so.”
“I recently told Manny how I got him out of his problems with Murad (Muhammad) and also the government over taxes he owed. I also told him how I got him for the second Morales fight DOUBLE what he got for Morales1 which he lost. He told me I didn’t need to remind him of what I did for him”
“I told him he tended to forget. I guess he forgot again.”
“I really like Manny and wish him well. But I can’t help being angry at Manny for his lack of loyalty and his bad choices.”
