Former world champion Amir Khan had a world of trouble with well travelled Mexican veteran Julio Diaz moments ago at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, England where he captured a narrow unanimous decision victory after surviving several rocky moments. Khan had an edge early behind a stiff jab but Diaz asserted himself in the fight dropping Khan in the fourth round with a well placed combination. Khan had a good comeback round regrouping in the fifth and both men did good work in the middle rounds. It was Diaz who came on very strong down the stretch, punching Khan all over the ring on rubbery legs in the final three rounds. While Khan showed good resolve to stay on his feet he appeared in a world of trouble. After the final bell sounded the local hero was ahead by narrow scores of 114-113, 115-113 and 115-112 to seal the win. The win moved Khan to 28-3 (19 KOs) while Diaz drops to 40-8-1 (29 KOs).
