Mexican superstar Saul Alvarez is on the verge of unifying the light-middleweight division tonight in Texas, but has a determined and focused opponent in Austin Trout to deal with first of all.
The 22 year-old WBC champion, who’s record stands at a jaw-dropping 41-0-1, would have ‘no doubt’ been an out of sight favourite to win the Alamodome clash had it not been for Trout’s impressive win over a faded Miguel Cotto in December, although Alvarez is widely expected to come through the tough American and add the WBA belt to his collection.
Trout, 27, is training harder than ever for what promises to be another gruelling twelve round contest, but whether he has the power to fend-off or trouble the hardened ‘Canelo’ is the only question as Alvarez will continually maraud forward. The New Mexican will have to attempt to stop Alvarez from coming at him with wave after wave of attacks and he will find out early on that there is a considerable difference between a young fresh champion and an old battle-weary fighter like Cotto.
