Promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions admits that only Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38KOs) can satisfy the financial demands of Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40KOs). The Mexican star is planning to continue his career at the age of 39, but he wants at least a guaranteed purse of $10 million dollars or more for his next fight.
During a few recent interviews, Marquez ruled out the possibility of a fifth fight with Pacquiao. Beltran, who co-promotes Marquez with Top Rank, has a few alternative options – if Marquez decides to go in another direction – but says none of them would meet Marquez’s financial requirements.
“I believe he deserves [at least $10 million or more]. We have to make a decision by April [on his next fight] and then we’ll make the announcement on who he will fight in September. However, putting Marquez and Pacquiao together is the only combination that produces an attractive financial figure for Juan Manuel,” Beltran said.
Top Rank’s CEO Bob Arum recently met with Marquez in Mexico and says the boxer is interested in talking further about Arum’s proposal for a fifth Pacquiao meeting.
“I know that Marquez wants to fight Manny Pacquiao, but we need to discuss it further,” said Arum.
