It looks like fans might be getting a little more bang for the buck when undefeated pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather makes his highly-anticipated return to the ring on May 4 to defend his WBC welterweight title against multi-division champion Robert Guerrero. According to sources, an extremely interesting rematch between jr. middleweights Alfredo Angulo and Gabriel Rosado is under serious considerations to be the opening bout for the pay-per-view event.
Word is that undefeated jr. middleweight contender J’Leon Love might be moved to either the untelevised portion of the card or to a date prior to the event. Angulo vs. Rosado would lead off the televised card in a rematch that’s sure to produce fireworks. The two first met inside the ring back in 2009, resulting in a 2nd round TKO win for Angulo. It was Angulo’s first fight back after suffering the first loss of his career.
Next up could be IBF bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz defending his title against an opponent yet to be determined, though his appearance on the card could also be scrapped to make room tor the Angulo-Rosado rematch. The good news is that it has now been confirmed that the co-feature will definitely be undefeated WBC super bantamweight champion Abner Mares moving up in weight to challenge WBC featherweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon.
If Angulo vs. Rosado does indeed get finalized, May 4 just might be one of the most stacked pay-per-view cards that we’ve seen in a long time.
