FINKEL TURNED DEMONS AWAY FROM PACMAN
San Francisco, CA-In more of a quizzical manner than anything else, I asked yesterday, what does Manny Pacquiao need manager Shelly Finkel for? He’s already a ‘made’ fighter, the hottest fighter in the world. Today, I answer the question as to why Manny Pacquiao needs Shelly Finkel. 1. It was Finkel that got Manny out of that onerous (see pimp) contract that Murad Muhammad held over Manny. 2. Settled the bitter suit with Pacquiao’s Filipino manager. 3. Negotiated a return match with Erik Morales in which he earned double what he had earned for the first fight which he lost. 4. Shelly got Manny an accountant that took care of his back-tax problems with the IRS.
WASN’T AN ANTI-SHELLY PIECE TO BEGIN WITH
Personally, I don’t think fighters of the upper echelon need a manger per se. But then, if Manny Pacquiao had not been with Shelly Finkel, I highly doubt that he would have been able to straighten himself out matters 1 through 4. And even though the Nevada Commission stated Shelly took 12% of Manny’s money, Mr. Finkel says that the figure averages lower than 10%. As for Pacquiao’s spending habits, HBO’s Larry Merchant says that nobody is to blame, “but Manny.”
SENSITIVE FINKEL HAS HAD LOTS OF SUCCESS
With his signing the majority of the 1984 Olympic Team, and just about every blue chip fighter he’s managed, Finkel, whether you like him or love him personally, professionally, he’s done a good job for clients including Pacquiao! As for him and Mike Tyson, Finkel did do some good for ex-champion. But it is hard to stop a runaway train, and that’s what Tyson is!
