SAN FRANCISCO -- Down by 16 points early in the first quarter and shooting poorly throughout the game (37-of-81 field goals made), the Golden State Warriors badly needed a saviour to preserve their modest two-game win streak that followed a six-game losing skid.
Jarrett Jack turned out to be that saviour.
In his second outburst in as many games, Jack exploded for 23 points and eight assists as the Warriors overcame the Minnesota Timberwolves, 100-99, Sunday afternoon at the Target Center in Minneapolis. The night before, the 6-foot-3 point guard had 30 points and 10 assists, helping Golden State rally past the San Antonio Spurs, 107-101, at the Oracle Arena in Oakland.
With their third win in a row, the 33-23 Warriors stayed at second place in the Pacific Division behind the 40-18 Los Angeles Clippers. But it wasn't pretty.
"When you think about 32 points off turnovers, 62 points in the paint, and they hurt us on the offensive boards, that's not a recipe that we are satisfied with. But give my guys credit, when we needed stops, when we needed plays, we did. We are a team that is not going to quit," Warriors head coach Mark Jackson told NBA.com.
Although Jack assumed the starring role, he had an able supporting cast as David Lee finished with yet another impressive double-double, 22 points and 13 rebounds while shooting ace Stephen Curry added 18 and five assists.
The Timberwolves, who dropped farther away form a playoffs berth at 20-33, got 23 points from derrick Williams and 21 from Nikola Pekovic. Ricky Rubio added 16 and 11 assists. (JSM)
