Marc Abrams caught up with hall of fame promoter Bob Arum on Tuesday at the Copacobana in New York City to discuss the big SHOWTIME doubleheader this Saturday night. Arum also gets into Margarito, Mayweather, Castillo, Hatton, Pavlik, Arce and Pacquiao
15rounds: Another week, another big fight.
Bob Arum: Yea, Two big fights that highlight the welterweight division where all the action is.
15rounds: Do you foresee the two winner, I know you mentioned that Cotto, shall he win must fight (Oktay) Urkal but do you see the two winners meeting in the foreseeable future if not right away?
BA: Probably by the end of the year, yeah.
15rounds. Obviously Mayweather is fighting De La Hoya but will you pursue Mayweather for Margarito at some point in 2007.
BA: Floyd doesn’t want any part of Margarito and you got to respect his judgment.
15rounds: Coming off a fabulous night a couple weeks ago with Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales a great show. Just some quick thoughts ten days after the fact?
BA: That’s two guys who gave everything in the ring. It only lasted three rounds but it was a great show.
15rounds: As you said, you are now the promoter of record for Manny Pacquiao. Do you expect to fight in China sometime in the spring?
BA: Macau in March
15rounds: There have been rumors that Edwin Valero may be the opponent?
BA: He may be one of the best fighters in boxing who hasn’t been seen in the United States.
15rounds: Would that be an HBO or Pay-Per-View type of fight?
BA: We will see.
15rounds: What are your quick plans for the beginning of 2007? You have Arce and Pavlik fighting in a boxing After Dark
BA: First we have Jose Luis Castillo on Ricky Hatton’s card on January 20
15rounds: And they would meet in a Pay-Per-View in June?
BA: No that would be an HBO fight in June
