REIGNING World Boxing Organization light flyweight champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes promised his fellow Filipinos a good fight when he defends his title against Mexican Moses Fuentes on March 2 at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City.
?Even if the fight would go the distance, I will not back down,? Nietes (31-1-3 win-loss-draw record with 17 knockouts) told The Manila Times on Friday in a telephone interview.
Nietes is replying to Fuentes? statement saying he would most probably fade in the later rounds when they fight.
Nietes, 30, said he is in tip-top condition and is ready to fight Fuentes (16-1 win-loss with eight KOs), who moved from minimumweight to light flyweight in order to challenge him.
?I?m not bothered about his comments but I can assure him and my fellow Filipinos that I will give him [Fuentes] a fight he won?t forget for the rest of his life,? said Nietes, who currently trains at the ALA gym in Cebu City.
?Let?s just see what would happen. You know me; I fight a lot using my brain inside the ring. He [Fuentes] is tall and has the punch, but it doesn?t matter at all,? said Nietes.
