FILIPINO Dondon Sultan attempts to become the country?s only world title holder when he takes on Australian Eddie ?Psycho? Delic for the vacant World Boxing Foundation (WBF) welterweight title today at the Suntec International Convention and Exhibit Center in Singapore.
The event, dubbed ?Showdown in Singapore? is organized by John Leung and will be the first title clash in Singapore since 1989.
Delic is a last-minute replacement for Solomon Egberime, who suffered an injury while training. ?I am coming fresh off a win and I am in great shape. Dondon is a tough opponent but I am confident he will soon learn why they call me Psycho,? said Delic in an article posted at Philboxing.com.
Sultan, the reigning Philippine welterweight champion, will be assisted in his corner by trainer Edmund Villamor and lady promoter Clarice Catipay, who left for Singapore two days ago.
If victorious, Sultan will bring home the title previously held by compatriot Dindo Castanares, who was stripped of the title by the WBF for his failure to defend the title.
