Juan Manuel Marquez is contemplating on two more fights, including a fifth faceoff with Manny Pacquiao, before finally hanging up his gloves.
Marquez is turning 40 in August next year and Salvador Rodriguez, a leading boxing scribe in Mexico, said he ?thinks Marquez will fight two more times? before closing the chapter to what has been an exemplary career.
Buoyed by his smashing sixth-round knockout of Pacquiao three weeks ago, Marquez is said to be unsure whether he will accept lucrative offers to continue boxing, saying he will first consult with his family before making a decision.
But Marquez is determined to go on in the pursuit of a fifth world title after winning at featherweight, super-feather, lightweight and super-lightweight, telling his promoters Bob Arum and Fernando Beltran and just about everyone in his team that he is interested in a fifth fight.
Still, Marquez admits that he will try persuade his wife Erika to reconsider her decision.
Erika was quoted by the Mexican media that no amount of money can overturn injuries that a fighter can suffer in the ring.
Rodriguez said Marquez is willing to give Pacquiao a chance to exact payback and regardless of what happens in that fight, will have a farewell fight as a fitting end to his Hall of Fame career.
Arum is also keen on holding a fifth fight provided that Pacquiao is given by experts in the US a go-signal after a thorough examination and that it will be ideal for the two to meet again during the Mexican Independence Day celebrations in September.
