Looking to repeat a feat

ROCKY Fuentes is back in Japan for another title defense of his Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) flyweight crown tonight.

Fuentes is up against Japanese Yuki Nasu in a rematch at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

Fuentes fought Nasu six years ago in Osaka, where the 26-year-old Cebuano escaped with a close split decision. He hopes to repeat that feat and continue his winning streak in Japan against Japanese fighters.

Fuentes has won all of his five fights in Japan, in which four were OPBF title fights. He is also riding an impressive 14-fight winning romp.

Nasu is also on a winning streak of his own with six straight victories. This will be the first time that the 30-year-old hometown hero will be in a 12-round title fight.

Fuentes, rated highly in the stacked flyweight division, is 34-6-2 with 20 knockouts, while Nasu is 23-6 with 16 knockouts.

Fuentes is ranked No. 2 in the World Boxing Association, No. 3 in the World Boxing Council, No. 5 in the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and No. 9 in the International Boxing Federation.

Tomorrow, Fuentes? stable mate at the ALA Boxing Gym, Arthur Villanueva, will try his luck for the vacant OPBF super flyweight crown against fellow prospect Taiki Eto at the same venue.

Villanueva is off a unanimous decision victory over against former world title contender Pramuansak Posuwan.

Eto, on the other hand, has back-to-back wins against tough competition in former WBO Asia-Pacific super flyweight titleholder Isack Junior and one-time world title challenger Konosuke Tomiyama.

Villanueva is 20-0 with 12 knockouts, while Eto is 10-1 with seven knockouts.
