Amir Khan took a lot of heat when he released Freddie Roach and hired Virgil Hill. He was ridiculed by quite a few people. A lot of people talked about how leaving Roach wasn’t the answer. Well it sure seems like it was. Khan looked like a new fighter last night. If you watched the fight, his attack was different. Khan dominated Carlos Molina last night in a big way.
Khan was a much smarter fighter last night. He boxed and moved. He used his speed, and he didn’t make mistakes. His new trainer obviously worked hard with him and taught him better defense, angles, and a plethora of other little things that made the difference.
Paulie Malignaggi noticed one thing that really has improved in Khan’s game. He would throw his combinations, then “go for a walk” if you will. He would throw, and get out. This paid off big time as well.

Khan looks like a new fighter under Hill. This shows you that Khan wasn’t getting what he needed under Freddie Roach. It’s no knock at Roach. Freddie just spreads himself thin and was unable to spend the necessary time with Khan. It probably was a career saving decision to get rid of Roach and to bring in Virgil Hill.
Last night’s win for Khan was a career saving win. He had no more room to take another loss. I’m glad that Khan won because a fighter with his skills has no business not being at the top of the rankings getting and winning title fights. Boxing needs guys like Khan.
