Manny Pacquiao is pretty much Freddie Roach’s last elite level fighter. Roach has not had a good year at all. The list of fighter’s that have lost under Roach in 2012 is growing. Amir Khan recently fired him, and Chavez Jr after getting his tail handed to him by Martinez tested positive for “wacky tobaccy.” Pacquiao lost a very controversial decision to Tim Bradley, but nevertheless, it was a loss and that loss seems to have summed up Roach’ year.
Roach’s fighters as of late, particularly Chavez Jr and Amir Khan lost badly. Khan has all the skills of a super star in this sport, and yet he seemed nor so prepared to face the scrappy southpaw, Danny Garcia. Khan decided that Roach wasn’t the one for him anymore, and packed up and left town.
There’s no denying that Roach has had a very successful career. He was a tough fighter when he was in the ring, and he transitioned from being a tough fighter to successful trainer. He’s been voted trainer of the year several times and deserves some credit for it. With that said, it seems that the glory days of being the king of the hill, are fading

Pacquiao will not be around forever. When he goes, who else will Roach have in the stable? I think Pacquiao realizes all of this, and it’s one reason he desperately wants to beat Marquez. A Pacquiao loss would really sum up Roach’ year.
Pacquiao and Roach will go down as one of the greatest one two punches in boxing history. Nobody can take away the success that the two men have achieved over the years. With that said, the end of the reign seems to be in sight.
Robert Garcia over in Oxnard, CA seems to have taken the torch. He seems to be the next trainer that can reach the levels that Roach once held. He’s built his stable impressively. Rios and Donaire to name a few.

This is a huge fight for Roach. Yes of course it’s Manny doing the fighting, but the win probably means more for Roach than it does for Pacquiao. Roach to my knowledge wants to train fighters for the unforeseen future, so another loss in 2012 would surely impact future opportunities.
