Austin Trout W UD12 Miguel Cotto
WBA junior middleweight world champion Austin Trout stepped up on the world stage and won a clear but competitive twelve round decision victory over former four-time and three-division world champion Miguel Cotto Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City as seen live on SHOWTIME. It was an exciting fight that saw both men have their moments. Trout used a busy jab and peppered Cotto with hooks and body shots in spots but the all-action Puerto Rican charge was determined the entire way. The men traded momentum throughout the fight, each man taking turns playing the aggressor. Trout was busier throughout the bout and finished strong in the championship rounds. After twelve rounds were complete the scores were read as 117-111(x2) and 119-109, all for Trout. While the scores were wide there were many close rounds in what was an exciting and competitive fight. With the victory Trout put himself on the map in the 154-pound division and retianed his WBA title moving to 26-0 (14 KOs) while Miguel Cotto slides to 37-4 (30 KOs) despite a spirited effort.
