SAN FRANCISCO -- Well into his sixth NBA season, superstar Kevin Durant finally had his first triple-double Sunday night at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in downtown Oklahoma. Too bad for the visiting Golden State Warriors.
The sizzling hot Durant tallied 25 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists as the Thunder easily handled the Warriors, 119-109. Durant swished 8-of-16 field goals, 3-of-5 triples and 6-of-7 free throws in a dazzling show of all-around brilliance. Making matters worse for Golden State was Russell Westbrook, who did just as much damage with 30 points, seven assists and five steals.
After leading by just a point after one quarter of play, the Thunder put the Warriors away with a combined 68 points in the second and third quarters to open a 94-73 advantage entering the fourth and final quarter. Kevin Martin also had 23 for the Thunder and Serge Ibaka added 16 as Oklahoma City made 42 of 83 field goals and 13 of 20 threes.
Despite the loss, the Warriors are a decent 5-5 for the season. Stephen Curry led Golden State against the Thunder with 22 points while David Lee had 19 and Carl Landry 14.
"It feels good to finally get one (triple-double). Serge and Russ kinda welcomed me to the club. I really wasn't thinking about it, if I got it great if and I didn't I was cool with that. But my teammates did a great job of setting me up and then they hit shots off a couple of my bad passes," an ecstatic Durant told NBA.com after the contest.
The OKC Thunder improved to 8-3 in the Western Conference, third best behind the 8-1 Memphis Grizzlies and the 7-2 Los Angeles Clippers. (Joan Secuya-Medida)
