WITH just one month left before the big fight, Filipino consensus champion Manny Pacquiao and WBA and IBF featherweight kingpin Juan Manuel Marquez are winding down to their final preparations even as both camps have resorted to psy-war tactics to put the other camp off balance.
Marquez’s trainer, Nacho Beristain, was quoted in his Mexican tongue as saying, “Pacquiao is a strong puncher who likes to go in deep. I guess with Marquez, I think that Pacquiao will not expose himself to fight power with power because he knows the kind of rival that is in front of him.”
Beristain believes that Pacquiao will not make true his previous statements that he will go for an early knockout in their May 8 encounter at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That statement, released through www.box-latino.com, hinted that Marquez could also be preparing to ambush Pacquiao whenever he gets careless or over-extends himself in offense. The Mexican has stopped a majority of foes coming in as he has almost perfected his counter-punching style.
Beristain also admitted that Marquez is still a bit slow and training camp has focused on developing speed that could match Pacquiao’s best attributes-power and speed.
