DO you know that Manny Pacquiao might finally fight Floyd Mayweather Jr.?
I had insisted on the fight not materializing. I had my reasons, mostly personal.
But before proceeding, congrats to Montito Garcia, a boxing buff himself, for scoring a hole-in-one on the 169-yard 15th of the Cebu Country Club on Saturday?his career fifth. In his flight were CCC GM Jeric Hechanova, Boy Franco, Bruce Chiongbian and Masatsuga Ochia.
I don?t like Mayweather. He?s boorish, very disrespectful.
I admire his skills, his genius. In boxing today, he is the most complete. He can box, slug and can play defense. In fact, his defense is his biggest offense.
Still, I don?t want Pacquiao fighting him. Mayweather will just benefit from Pacquiao, earning an undeserved cash bonanza arising from the bout.
Did Pacquiao not even relent to receiving less than what Mayweather will receive from the fight? And, if I got it right, is Pacquiao?s take-home pay 45 percent as against Mayweather?s 55 percent? Nonsense.
But who cares about me, about my thoughts, about my feelings?
I am just a mere speck in a world of wheeler-dealers.
The lords of the ring will listen to no one; they only have themselves to listen to.
Long billed as the Fight of The Century for the projected million-dollar earnings from the gates as well as PPV (Pay-Per-View), the Pacquiao-Mayweather encounter has all the trimmings of a megabuck fight.
