After knocking out Britian’s Amir Khan this past Summer, super lightweight boxer Danny Garcia kept his perfect record in tact by destroying veteran Erik Morales on Saturday night by a fourth round knock-out.
Boxing politics, or “politricks”, would seem to limit serious main event bouts for Garcia (see Top Rank Promotions vs. Golden Boy Promotions long running and futile feud). Some of the tastiest match-ups would pit Garcia (Golden Boy) against Brandon Rios (Top Rank), Mike Alvarado (Top Rank), or Lucas Matthysse (Golden Boy).
The best fight for the fans, and I am here to lobby for the fans, would be Garcia vs. Rios. Both men are aggressive, and are coming off wins separated by a week – last week Rios was in a candidate of Fight of the Year against Alvarado. I couldn’t imagine a potential Garcia vs. Rios bout to be anything but action and drama.
If you need an angle, you have the historical back drop of the long storied rivalry between fighters of Puerto Rican (Garcia) and Mexican (Rios) decent, and both fighters are in their undefeated prime.
