When Floyd Mayweather Jr was sentenced to the slammer for a few months many people rejoiced. The undefeated multiple world champion completed his stint, and now he is back out. I was hoping that after he served his jail time that perhaps maybe the man would come out more humble. I’m still hoping that same thing.
Before Mayweather went off to jail, I expressed my opinion on why I thought he should be given probation rather than jail time. I put forth some conditions for Floyd to complete, such as building a few women shelters, anger management, and to give some presentations on domestic violence. One in particular writer, Ed de la Vega of Philboxing wrote a rather scathing article ridiculing my idea. I stand by my position, and here’s why. Mr de la Vega may think it was crazy to suggest that Floyd should have done probation, I do not.

It appears as if jail has done nothing to change Floyd. I mean, he’s already had another run in with his ex, and it’s possible that he may go back to jail. I think the world would have been better off with new women shelters rather than seeing Floyd go to jail for a few months. Abused women could have benefited from new shelters. A few stinking months in jail for Floyd did nothing for the world. Perhaps it quenched the thirst of a few people like de la Vega, who wanted him to go to jail, but in the long run jail did nothing.

This isn’t about Floyd buying his way out of jail. With that said, I have a different tone now though. If Floyd violates his probation, then he should definitely go to jail, and he should be on the express line to get there.
