Might as well just retire from the sport again, or simply say he does not want to fight Manny Pacquiao, because any other excuse he gives for not agreeing to make this fight happen in 2013 is ridiculous.
Yes, there will be those die-hard Mayweather fans that will insist that Mayweather deserves more. Not if Pacquiao handily beats Marquez in December (that’s a big IF though; all caps big), because sure enough, a loss or a lackluster performance from Pacquiao will be that superfight’s kryptonite.
But why wait? If Mayweather truly wants to fight Pacquiao, answer him now. Just fight the guy. No more alibis. “Do the do” my dude.
For Mayweather and his fans can argue all day about how much more skilled Mayweather is as a boxer and win it, but until Mayweather proves it in the ring, it’s sounds nothing more than self-preservation. It’s the risk taken that glorifies winning. And it’s perhaps what even his buddy, rapper-turned boxing promoter Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, has noticed which prompted him to want to work with the opponent. Jackson further stressed that Mayweather hasn’t shown the “sense of urgency” of wanting to make the fight happen, and as a boxing promoter, his main goal is to give fights the fans want. “Floyd is always welcome, if we put this together, the door will always be open for Floyd to join in,” said Pacquiao Canadian advisor Michael Koncz to MTV News. “They approached us, they came to us and initially it was 50 Cent, Floyd and Manny. We don’t have a problem with Floyd. Manny doesn’t have any anger or resentment,” he added.
