There’s a new Gesta in town (literally, if you live in Sunny San Diego), and he has a lot in common with his popular older brother. Anecito “Mokz” Gesta, Jr. arrived in San Diego a couple of weeks ago together with his mom through the efforts of undefeated lightweight rising star Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta with the help of friends.
“Mokz” intends to follow in his big brother’s footsteps and soon join his camp in San Diego to pursue a successful boxing career. Gesta’s co-trainer and co-manager Vince Parra is excited with the prospect of helping groom the younger Gesta the way he did his prized pupil. “He’s a good little fighter,” Parra told me over the phone and added, “fighting is in this kid’s blood, and he fights at 126 […] I’ve watched him a little bit, he’s a little different than Mercito. He’s not much of a speedy guy. He’s more of a finesse, real smart little fighter. Both the kids are very well educated in combat.”
What “Mokz” does have in common with Mercito is his Muay Thai background having competed in the sport for several years in the Philippines. Like Mercito, he is also a southpaw and took up boxing late. “I’m excited to see him work here, and for us to get him proper training and work against top American fighters in sparring,” Parra added.
